Thank you for visiting our website.  We are Jake and Deb Strege and we have two young daughters.  We live on a small hobby farm in rural Fergus Falls, Minnesota.  Our life as a family revolves around being in the outdoors whether it be hunting, fishing, camping, spending time with our animals or working in our large vegetable garden.

Jake and I have owned and loved dogs for most of our lives.  Jake bought his first hunting dog, a German Shorthair, when he was in the fifth grade with money he had earned himself.  Since then he has always owned at least one hunting dog and has thoroughly enjoyed  training each dog to be the best it can be.  Jake spends countless hours hunting with our dogs in North and South Dakota and western Minnesota throughout each hunting season, along with an occasional trip to somewhere new.   During off-hunting season we continue to work with our dogs to prepare them for the following season.

Jake and I spend many weekends attending Verein Deutsch Drahthaar events and training days, even if we aren't intensely training a dog for a test.  We have been able to meet many other Drahthaar owners and see their dogs at work in the field and in the water.  This has been so beneficial to us as we are able to form our own opinions of the many dogs in the program from real-life experience.  Although we are fully committed to the Verein Deutsch Drahthaar as a superior hunting breed, we still own and hunt with other breeds of dogs.  We believe many other breeds and dogs bring their own strong points, and real dogwork is hard to beat regardless of breed!
